12 Side Hustles in 12 Months
This project is inspired by the 12 Startups in 12 Months series that others have done before. I am not interested in building startups at the moment, but I want to make more money. I am happy with my day job, but at the same time, I want to address two problems that I am struggling with.
1. Creative Outlet
I want a creative outlet for my ideas where I get to do everything. That means I have complete freedom to work on whatever I want. Of course, there are other constraints, but I get to find solutions on my own.
My mind is occupied with many ideas that I want to execute, but procrastination, other priorities, and doubts come in the way. So I am challenging myself for the next 12 months.
2. Accredited Investor
I love that I get to be part of investing in founders who are so passionate about the problem that they are addressing. That’s what I get to do for my day job, but I want to do more. To fund more companies, I need to be an Accredited Investor and need to have💰. I know some of the changes to SEC rule around the definition of Accredited Investor had changed recently, but it’s still expensive to maintain the status. I would rather invest that money in founders.
What I want to get out of this:
- Find my rhythm for executing creative projects
- Find awesome people to build deeper relationships
- Learn more thing to apply for my day job
- Make $
Rules:
- Focus on one side hustle at a time
- Build in public

- June: Cards game for VCs
This is still in works. Figured out how to produce and ship them. Still working on content for the card.
2. July: On demand printing
- Created a Redbubble account
- Set up FB ads
- Realized I can’t retarget with Redbubble
- I quit. Will be back with Printful.
3. August: Reverse Coloring Book
We all know about coloring books but what I really want to do is doodle. So for some inspiration, the reverse coloring book was born.
What I used:
- Illustrator
- Vecctezy
- Adobe Acrobat
- KDP
Price Breakdown:
Book Price: $14.99
Royalty rate: 60%
Printing Cost: $4.486
0.85 USD per book listing cost on amazon
0.036 USD per page * 101 pages = 3.636
Profit = ($14.99*.6)-$4.49 = $4.51
to break even with out including my labor cost, I need to sell atleast 11 books.
